Civil Air Patrol Squadron 307, Lebanon, Pa. was asked by Lebanon Valley
College in Annville, Pa. to assist in traffic control during their
annual cross country event at Fort Indiantown Gap on Sept. 6, 2008. 

Assisting this event were Cadet Commander 2Lt. Patrick Roach,  Cadet
Master Sergeant Amber Frantz, Cadet Staff Sergeant Ben Lyon,  Cadet
Airman Jordon Hollinger, and Cadet Airman First Class Tyler Zoner.
Senior members were Major Hal Roach, commander of 307 and 1Lt. Wilson
Ballester.
 


July 30, 2008 cadets and senior members went to Yoggi's Mini Golf Course
in Lebanon, Pa.  Despite the rain storm, everyone had a good time.  When
the rain came, everyone was treated inside to a dish of ice cream by the
Sq.   After the rain, the teams finished their golf and went back to the
VFW where a short  class was held outside.

PS  Wilson had such a good time, he forgot to take pictures.  Seniors
were paired with cadets for teams.  LOL  All in all it was a fun night
and we were proud of how the cadets handled themselves.

 

Civil Air Patrol Sq. 307 held a Chicken BBQ Fundraiser

Civil Air Patrol Sq. 307 held a Chicken BBQ Fundraiser to support all
their activities and functions.  Kauffman's supplied the chicken and
potatoes.

The event took place in Lebanon, Pa. across from the Home Depot on July
23, 2008 and it was a huge success.  Cadets and senior members sold
tickets in advance and the rest were drive ups.  The community always
supports the Civil Air Patrol.

307 Visits Indian Echo Caverns and Hershey Chocolate World





Sat., July 19, 2008 Civil Air Patrol Sq. 307 cadets and seniors visited
Indian Echo Cavern and took the tour and learned many interesting facts
and stories including the one where a hermit lived in the cave for 19
years before he died there. Then the squadron had lunch in their picnic
area.  Then it was off to Hershey's Chocolate World and another tour to
learn how Hershey candy is made and how Milton Hershey first started his
candy business.  The squadron then saw the Hershey Chocolate World  3 D
Show.

Cadets and senior members from the Pennsylvania Wing's Lebanon VFW Cadet Squadron 307 place some of the more than 2,000 U.S. flags they laid on veterans' graves at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in observance of Memorial Day.

PENNSYLVANIA -- Cadet Col. Thomas P. Carr received Civil Air Patrol's highest cadet honor, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, during a recent ceremony at Lebanon VFW. Post No. 23.

Cadet Col. Thomas P. Carr receives his Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award from Maj. Gen. Steven Sischo, Pennsylvania deputy adjutant general and Pennsylvania Air National Guard commanding officer. Flanking the pair are the cadet's parents, 1st Lts. Thomas and Belinda Carr.
Carr is the first member of the Lebanon squadron to achieve the Spaatz award in the unit's 34-year history.

Only about one-half of 1 percent of all cadets -- less than 1,700 since the honor was initiated in 1964 -- receive the award, given to those who complete all phases of the CAP cadet program and the Spaatz award examination.

Presenting the award was Maj. 

Gen. Steven Sischo, Pennsylvania deputy adjutant general and commanding officer of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.

Guests for the ceremony included Col. Mark Lee, Pennsylvania Wing commander; Lt. Cols. Robert Meinert, wing executive director; Bruce Brinker, wing director of cadet programs; Byron Marshall, wing Group 2 commander; and Roysetta Bruner, Drug Demand Reduction director for Civil Air Patrol's Northeast Region; and State Rep.  Mauree Gingrich.

A senior at Cedar Crest High School, where is a member of the National Honor Society and German Club, Carr is also a member of the Palmyra Junior Rifle Team. He has competed in national rifle competitions at Camp Perry, Ohio; Fort Benning, Ga.; and the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Carr has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and will be a member of the class of 2012. He will also represent Army as a NCAA Division 1 student athlete as a member of the Army Rifle Team.

Lebanon Cadet Squadron VFW Squadron 307 recently visited Cornwall United Methodist Church in Cornwall, Pa., to instruct Cub Scouts on the proper way to fold the American flag and the meaning of each fold.

Cub Scouts watch attentively as Lebanon VFW Cadet Squadron 307 cadets demonstrate the proper way to fold the U.S. flag.

The cadets also handed out pamphlets on how to display and respect the flag. 

They fielded numerous questions from the Cub Scouts
about both the flag and Civil Air Patrol.

Including the Scouts, about 150 people attended the meeting.

PENNSYLVANIA -- Members of Lebanon VFW Cadet Squadron 307 stepped up recently to help ensure smooth operations when the World War II Federation held its annual Battle of the Bugle Living History Commemoration at Fort Indiantown Gap.

The cadets helped handle such duties as registering battle re-enactors, providing security, setting up flea markets featuring World War II memorabilia, manning radios to keep in contact with organizers and participants, assisting veterans and parking cars for the public battles staged Jan. 26.

The event commemorating the epic campaign ran from Jan. 22-26, drawing participants from all over the U.S. and several foreign countries.


Before the public battle, three Lebanon squadron cadets -- Cadet Maj. Rentschler and Cadet Lts. Patrick Roach and Cody Neiswender -- and 1st Lts. Wilson Ballester and Bea Gernert escorted and provided any needed assistance to veterans on their bus trip view a private re-enactment not open to the general public. Ballester took photos for the Lebanon squadron.

The squadron's involvement began at midweek and included:

The color guard's presentation of the colors Jan. 23 at Milton Hershey Middle School in Hershey, where the World War II Federation's living historians and war veterans put on a program for the students. In the evening, a flag that flew in Iraq was presented Cap. Harold Roach, Lebanon squadron commander. Squadron members also got to see a German tiger tank that had been used in the filming of "Saving Private Ryan" and an assault gun used in the filming of "Band of Brothers.

A flag retirement the color guard, cadets and senior memberheld Jan. 24 in front of the Fort Indiantown Gap veterans barracks with World War II veterans in attendance. The cadets also got to ride in a vintage German half-track. Two Stryker tanks made an appearance as well, with the crews explaining the vehicles to the squadron and letting the members inside to view the equipment and its functions. The tanks will eventually be deployed to Iraq.

The color guard's participation a reception for veterans Jan. 25. at the Community Club. In addition, Rentschler helped a veteran lay a wreath on the Battle of the Bulge Memorial outside the Community Club. Cadets from all participating squadrons attended the ceremony.
